June 29, 2009 - Three Week Projection Excerpt
AOne of the most interesting periods of Strange Paradise was the last five weeks of the Maljardin storyline. During this time, the scripts penned by Ian Martin ran out, and a succession of writers was brought in to help keep the plotlines going. Eventually, due to fallign ratings, something of anoverhaul was called for. Incoming producer Bob Costello decided to move the show off the island of Maljardin to alocation where characters could more easily come and go. As a result, a number of cast members were scheduled to be killed off and a number of dangling plotlines were to be wrapped up. Writers would provide three week projections to indicate where storylines were going. At right is an excerpt from the three week projection covering the final 15 episodes of the Maljardin storyline (episodes 51-65). This particular excerpt shows a small change for the character of Dan Forrest. Originally, Dan was supposed to die in episode 49, but was temporarily saved so that he could die at the hands of Jean Paul's wife Erica.

June 22, 2009 - Behind the Scenes
At right is another in our occasional series of behind the scenes photos. This particular photo was taken on the set of the drawing room of Desmond Hall. Although it was not often seen on the show, there was a piano on the set, and cast and crew alike would occasionally sit down and play. This photo captures cameraman George Klobouk taking his turn at tickling the ivories

June 15, 2009 - Ron Sproat Writing Credits
Another document from the archives arrives this week. This time around it's a copy of the writing credits for Ron Sproat, prepared by the Writers Guild of America. Amongst the many daytime credits are several entries for Dark Shadows, both during the program's initial run and during its syndicated runs. Additionally, there is an entry for Ron's stint at writer on Strange Paradise. Ron, along with fellow DS writer Joe Caldwell, was brought in by Dark Shadows producer Bob Costello to help write for the program after its ratings began falling. He eventually helped the show move from the Maljardin setting to the Desmond Hall setting.

June 8, 2009 - Signed 8 x 10 Photo
At right is an 8 x 10 photo taken during the recording of the Desmond Hall episodes. This particular photo features series regulars Colin Fox (Jean Paul) and Raxl (Cosette Lee) posing on the set of either Jean Paul's bedroom or the main hall. The photo was given the makeup artist Pauline Clarkson and is hand inscribed by Cosette Lee - "Pauline, with love, Cosette."

June 1, 2009 - CBC Local TV Schedules
Our June archives begin with a sample of a CBC TV schedule for the fourth quarter of 1969. The CBC, being a countrywide network, would distribute local television schedules to all of its affiliate stations so that they would be aware of what programs would be airing when, as well as the percentage of programming that was Canadian in origin. This particular schedule shows Strange Paradise in its Mon.-Fri. 2pm slot.
